“The Royal Tailor”

tells a tale of two tailors in the Joseon era.

Jo Dol-seok, head of the royal attire department, adheres strictly to tradition.

When the Queen needs a new robe for the King, Dol-seok refuses, leading her to the innovative Lee Gong-jin. Gong-jin’s modern designs and charm win the Queen’s favor, sparking Dol-seok’s jealousy.

Fearing his own obsolescence, Dol-seok frames Gong-jin for treason. Gong-jin sacrifices himself to protect the Queen.

Though Dol-seok succeeds in erasing Gong-jin from official history, the film’s end reveals Gong-jin’s designs become popular, and his masterpiece is wrongly attributed to Dol-seok at a modern press conference.
